Whether it is hardselling facial therapists who care more about earning your money than protecting your skin or beautiful faces ruined by inexperienced and unhygienic therapists like what poor Bun Bun experienced a few years ago, the many negative experiences about facials have made many people, including myself, wary about facials.

Just like Bun Bun and many other people, I’ve had some bad experiences in the past when I was still a teenager. Instead of helping my acne condition get better, the aggressive extraction by my-then-facial therapist left many acne scars that made me regret entering the neighbourhood salon in the first place.
I was therefore always very hesitant to try out new salons… until I came across facial salons which have completely changed my impression of salons altogether.
These salons are not always cheap but I love how sincere and knowledgeable therapists at these salons are. On top of their great no-hardselling service, many of these salons have also helped me and other customers improve our skin concerns considerably. Although I would prefer to keep them as my own best kept secret at times, I believe these great salons deserve a shout-out!
I also hope that this article will also come in useful for those of you frustrated about your skincare problems. Don’t let some black sheep in the industry spoil your chances to achieve the best complexion you can attain!

1. NUA Singapore @ Tanjong Pagar
- Price: >$85
- Best known for NUA Signature Customized Facial, Dermatologica products, Depilar Hair Removal
Even though NUA Singapore is smaller and less luxurious than many of the other facial salons, it is still by far our favourite. Concerned more about quality of service rendered than sales, Shiori would rather keep the salon small and maintain the high level of standard rather than grow too fast with less experienced and knowledgeable facial therapists. She and her staff are therefore among the most knowledgeable and experienced facial therapists I’ve seen who use solid scientific approach to help customers alleviate their skin problems! She is also generous in using a plethora of devices such as radiofrequency and ultrasound to enhance the effectiveness of the facial. Although prices are slightly higher than usual, the effectiveness particularly for acne-prone and anti-aging skin makes the facial really worth it. However, they are getting more and more busy so it is probably not a good option to make an appointment at the last minute.

2. Porcelain Face Spa @ Cantonment Rd and Orchard Gateway
- Price: >$200
- Best known for thorough (often painful) extractions, award-winning facial treatments, good service
A local name that dominates facial awards in Singapore beauty magazines, Porcelain Face Spa is one of the facial salons that lives up to its hype. Customers report that although extractions from Porcelain can be rather painful, the red marks disappear soon after and the face condition improves significantly. They have also been introducing new forms of technology such as LED for its customers. Overall, a great facial salon to try, particularly if the often high price tag is not an issue!

3. Adeva Spa @ Paragon
- Price: $200-$700
- Best known for Natura Bisse Facials, great service, no hardselling, relaxing ambience
Adeva Spa has won multiple awards for its Natura Bisse Facials, a Spanish facial brand offered only in select premium facial salons in Singapore and worldwide (yes, it is the brand used by Julia Roberts, Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Kelly Rowland as well!)
The wonderful ambience and great service offered by Adeva Spa therapists combined with the Natura Bisse products make the entire facial experience worthy of its high price tag; on top of making you feel like a Queen, Natura Bisse facials are known to incorporate the latest facial technology and the best quality ingredients to help you achieve your skincare objectives!

4. Geranium Skin Boutique @ Lavender
- Price: >$120 ($58 with Beauty Undercover Promotion!)
- Best known for award-winning Face Toning TM, Guasha Facial, not-so-painful extractions, effective facial peels, microneedle therapy
If you dismiss Geranium due to its somewhat unimpressive exterior, you’re missing out!
An underrated facial salon which rely mostly on word of mouth from satisfied customers, Geranium is one of the best facial salons we’ve been! Therapists here are more knowledgeable than most and are skillful at helping you achieve your skincare objectives without the pain! They are also friendly, sincere and does not hardsell. Founder Grace also makes sure that every customer is satisfied by encouraging customers to leave feedback so that service levels can be improved. Overall, a facial salon we are happy to recommend… their Facial Toning TM is our favourite if you are interested!

5. Spa @ Loewen Gardens

- Best known for Decleor Facials, Karin Herzog Facials, Children-friendly place, Popular among Expats
If you can’t resist a good Decleor Facial or crave a good Swiss Karin Herzog facial, you should definitely check out Spa @ Loewen Gardens. On top of being customizing the treatments to your needs, we love it that Spa @ Loewen Gardens take every effort to ensure that your companions (children too!) have a good time with their very own children manicures and pedicures! The facial products are also of high quality so you are really getting what you are paying for!

6. Queen’s Market @ Tanjong Pagar

- Best known for awesome facial massage, attentive Japanese service, affordable beauty services!
If you can overlook the slightly cluttered salon at Tanjong Pagar, Queen’s Market is definitely the hidden gem you should check out! Effective AND affordably priced, Japanese therapists Maki san and Mami san offers great lymphatic facial massage facials as well as the latest Dr Arrivo facial that is suitable even for the most sensitive lady with eczema! Customers can expect to see a visible facial lift and brighter skin immediately after the facials… and best of all, the price is light enough on the pocket that you can consider coming regularly for a facial without breaking your bank! 7. Nourish Naturally @ Upper Thomson

- Best known for Maria Galland Facials, Suki Spa Facials, Luzern facials at reasonable prices, facials suitable for sensitive skin, resort-feel, private location
The first facial and nail salon that transformed Agent G’s impression about salons in general, Nourish Naturally is founded by a skillful and knowledgeable facial therapist Veronica. Although it can be a little pricey here, they offer only high quality facial using products that Veronica has personally tried herself. There is also no hardselling here and therapists are generally very friendly and sincere. The location at Upper Thomson, however, makes it difficult for some of us to go there regularly! 8. Skin Inc @ ION Orchard

A local skincare brand that is now present in over 9 countries worldwide, Skin Inc is well known for its customized facial products that caters to the ladies with various skin types and skin needs. They also offer their award-winning Oxy Miracle Facial Peel at their ION Orchard outlet for those of you hoping to rejuvenate your skin with pure oxygen as well as a plethora of other treatments to suit your needs. 9. Spa Esprit @ Dempsey and Paragon

- Best known for Plump Up Filler Facial, Air Supply Facial, Wet Wet Wow Facial, amazing neck and shoulder massage, thorough cleansing
Using a combination of machines, massage techniques and facial products exclusively available at Spa Esprit, the facials here appear to deliver much substance beyond their bombastic names. Therapists are experienced and does not criticize your skin tone just to make you feel bad or do intense hardselling so that you’ll sign up with them. The overall experience is good and would make you want to return… if you can afford the relatively high price tag!

10. Ikeda Spa @ Bukit Timah and Clarke Quay

- Best known for Chidoriya Geisha Organic Facial, Menard Facials, Japanese themed rooms, Great Service
Ikeda spa may be more well known for their ultra pampering massages but don’t forget about their exotic Chidoriya Geisha facials and facials from Menard as well. Combined with great service and high quality products, the overall facial experience leaves you feeling refreshed and renewed. If you have sensitive skin however, you may want to ask the therapist to lay off the massage a little and avoid the exotic facials to prevent breakouts!

11. Sulwhasoo @ Capitol Piazza

- Best known for Sulwhasoo Facials, No Extractions, Good Service, No hardselling!
Fans of Sulwhasoo products can rejoice! On top of their well-reviewed facial outlets at various departmental stores, Sulwhasoo has just opened its standalone flagship store at Capitol Piazza. There are no extractions here but they use only high quality Sulwhasoo products that you know are the real deal. Service is also exemplary… a great place to come for some facial pampering!
