Graduation ceremony is coming soon and you are not sure what hairstyle to sport for that special day?

Check out our 5 hairstyle ideas below to help you look great under the Mortar board!

1. Sleek and Straight

Most of us may opt for the Sleek and Straight look, like Emma Watson did when she graduated in 2014.

If your hair is excessively frizzy, you can consider getting your hair rebonded at your favourite hair salons! Rebonded hair tends to be more manageable and therefore more presentable at job interviews… so why not kill two birds with one stone by getting your hair straightened?

For those who are worried that rebonding is too flat for you, well, it all depends on your hairstylist / hair salon! We love the natural S Curve and C Curve Rebonding by Picasso Hair Studio; the added curves make the hair look presentable yet natural (and more voluminous).

Alternatively, you can also go for keratin hair treatments to tame your hair. The relaxer and Keratin therapy at Clover Hair Boutique is an example of what you can do if you want to have straight hair but is not keen to do rebonding!

Of course, you can also visit your trusted hairdresser to get the hair properly blown straight and ironed for a straight and neat look on your graduation day! A quick hairspray is also recommended to keep your hair in place.

TIP: Pulling your hair forward will give too much of a boxed-in look, so wear some simple earrings to add some pizzazz! (Remember not to get those long dangling ones! Your robe will pull your whole look down enough!)

2. Bangs

If you don’t want that awfully square mortar cutting straight across your face, bangs can help break that squarish-ness and add some flow to your hair!

We highly recommend Izumi from Izumi Hair Salon for her expertise in creating fringes that make faces look smaller (note: she doesn’t do fringe cuts alone so you’ll have to go for a full haircut)! Though pricey, her haircuts are always so good and we guarantee you’ll love your new look!

If Izumi is a little out of reach, Chin Yee from Vast Hair Salon is also another great stylist to look for bangs cut and tips to make your bangs look more voluminous!

3. Light Curls

If you like your hair a little wavy and voluminous, consider getting a perm before your graduation, or opt for quick styling on the day itself!

Before and After Front

A voluminous perm like what Agent V did at Chez Vous Hair Salon definitely adds glam to the overall look for your graduation (and even afterwards)!
Such a perm is also formal enough for job interviews after graduation – a great addition for ladies who wish to tone down their angular face or more aggressive personality.

Of course, you don’t have to get a perm if you’re not intending to have curls for long. Styling can also give you those much desired curls for the day!
Here’s a satisfied customer who styled her hair at Kobayashi Hair Design.

4. Low Ponytail

For those looking for a more casual look, particularly for casual portrait photoshoots, a low ponytail can work wonders!

Pull your hair sleekly back and through elastic set low on your neck. Curl the hair ends a little to add some shape and spray the whole thing so that your hair stays in place even when you pull off your graduation hat off (for throwing in the air?).For those less skilled with their hands (or lazy to style their own hair), consider getting a stylist to style the above look on your big day! This casual chic look works well for casual photoshoots but probably not for more formal photos when you’re dressed in your official robe and mortar board.

5. Exotic Buns and Braids

Though buns and braids are not very common for graduation portraits, they are a great way to look sophisticated and special on your important day.
We particularly love how creative Ryu from COVO Hair Salon is with his many bun hairstyles and gorgeous waterfall braids!
