As much as I try not to get affected, I still feel a little sad when I hear comments like “Your eyelashes are so short!” This is the case particularly when I hear it from well-meaning makeup artists who find it difficult to make my eyes stand out.
That was why my interest was aroused when I came across KJStudio from one of my Japanese friends, Emi.
Marketing consultant for as well as loyal customer of KJStudio, Emi raved to me about her client KJS.
The extensions also last longer than other salons… more than half my eyelashes last more than 4 weeks! As I’m very confident about KJS, I want to tell the whole world about them!
Yes I know. Emi is their marketing consultant… of course she would say good things.
That’s why when Emi invited me to try out KJS with her, I knew I had to say yes to try it out for myself!
KJS is located along Keong Saik Rd, in a shophouse close to Naumi Hotel.
For those who frequent COVO Hair Salon, KJStudio is directly above COVO on the second floor.
It used to operate at COVO itself but Jeane had so many customers that they eventually decided to expand above COVO.
It is easy to miss it if you aren’t careful… so do come early if its your first time (just in case you lose your way)! As they operate on a strict schedule, the therapists here might cancel your appointment if you arrive too late!
By the time I reached KJS, Emi (the lady in orange) was already there.
We were asked to take a seat and given a handmade book of eyelash pictures to help us decide what type of eyelash extensions we are interested in.
Based on what the lash therapist shared with us, here are some tips on how to choose the right eyelash extensions for yourself!
TIP: If you have big eyes, want something natural yet sexy, you can go for J, B or L curls. They are flatter at the start but curl upwards for a more sexy/cute look at the end.

TIP: If you have downward eyelashes or smaller eyes like mine, the more dramatic C or CC curls would help to make your eyes look bigger. This is because C / CC curls are shaped like a half circle from the body to end, giving the maximum curl

C Curl
Depending on your preferences, you can also mix the C and J curls for a more natural curl.

For those a little more daring, you may even choose to add coloured eyelashes for ombre eyelashes!
Pink and Purple Ombre C Curls
During my one and only past experience with lash extensions previously, the therapists didn’t even bother asking me what I wanted and instead, went ahead to apply an entire chunk of eyelash extensions on my eyelids.
I was therefore rather impressed when the therapists at KJStudio bothered to explain the entire lash extension process and tried to understand what I was looking for. After listening to my preferences, Jeane, my therapist, recommended a C curl for me. (Yes I so need it to make my eyes look bigger!) As I was worried that it will look too “fake”, Jeane promised to mix in some J curls so that it will look more natural!
Emi, who had bigger eyes, chose a more understated J curl.
Finally, after 10-15 min of consultation, the eyelash extension is going to commence!
We were first escorted to one of these two beds.
The two pink boxes over there are for us to put our belongings… How thoughtful!
As I wanted to see the process for myself, I requested for Emi to go first.
After settling onto the uber comfortable bed, Emi’s therapist Tomomi adjusted the light to ensure that she has a good view of Emi’s eyelashes.
The first thing she did was to paste an adhesive over the bottom lashes to ensure that the bottom lashes wouldn’t be in contact with the glue that is going to be applied.
NOTE: You cannot open your eyes once this step has begun. This is crucial as it affects how well the lash extensions are applied later on!
Once the two adhesives are applied, Tomomi applied a special lash moisturizer to strengthen and prepare the lash for the extension.
She then took out her pack of neatly labelled eyelash extensions and picked out those she would use for Emi.
After applying the glue on the chosen lash extensions, Tomomi started on the lash extension.
Like an artist, she applied the eyelash extension ONE BY ONE on Emi’s existing eyelashes (1 mm away from the eyelid!).
Tomomi then adjusts each eyelash to form her desired shape… impressive!
About 45 minutes later, she is almost done!
Can you see how much thicker Emi’s eyelashes look now?
After a little blowdrying (like a hair service!) and she’s done!

Her eyelashes look so naturally thick and long, it is hard to tell that she just had an eyelash extension!

Seeing her lash makeover right in front of my eyes, I was really excited to try it for myself!
It’s pretty different seeing what’s going on and experiencing it for myself!
Once I laid down on the bed, I fell asleep in minutes!
There was no discomfort and in fact, I was so comfortable napping, I had to make sure I didn’t snore.
I was awakened only when Jeane used the dryer!
So here’s how many eyelashes looked BEFORE the extension
And now… after!
WAH. The difference is obvious. The lashes look a LOT longer and curlier!

Immediately after the eyelash extensions
As I’m still a newbie to eyelash extensions, I could somehow feel the lash extensions on the eyelashes. It doesn’t cause much discomfort but it does take some getting used to!
1 day after the extension
It feels really good to have long and thick eyelashes the moment you wake up… no mascara needed!
However I did have some trouble applying liquid eyeliner because the lashes naturally curl up… so I had to draw through the curly lashes… if you know what i mean!
2 weeks after the extension
By now, I’m super used to having the extensions. With eyelid tape and lash extensions, my eyes look much bigger without going under the knife!
Can’t imagine myself without the eyelash extensions!
TIP: To extend the life of the lash extensions, don’t apply mascara or touch the lash extensions unnecessarily!
Overall, I had a great experience at KJStudio. Its hard to believe that it takes just slightly over an hour to make my eyes stand out that much more!
I used to think that I was stuck with small eyes and short lashes but it empowers me to know that I can actually do something about the eyelashes… and avoid anything extreme like plastic surgery. Best of all, I was surprised to find that the extensions are relatively affordable… at $110 each time. They last about 4-6 weeks and there is a huge discount if you return to retouch every 4 weeks.
I am now in my 6th week and amazingly, I still have some of the extensions left!
Maybe its because the lashes are applied one by one, the lash extensions still look natural even though only some of them remain!
This is so addictive, I know I will be back to KJStudio for a second round of extensions before Chinese New Year. Don’t tell too many friends about this… I don’t want Jeane & Tomomi too booked up before I go!
This is after all one of my best kept secrets for Beauty Undercover readers out there!
Thank you Emi for introducing to me KJStudio &
