November 2014

Hello everyone, I’m Agent AM, one of the newly minted agents for Beauty Undercover.

Instead of doing what I usually do on weekends, I took a break from baking and headed over to Air Salon at The Cathay Dhoby Ghaut for a makeover!

Air Salon is opened by celebrity Lee Teng and I have read that they were the official hair partner for 50 Gorgeous People 2014 event, so I was really looking forward to see what kind of hairstyle they can suggest for me!

Although of course… I have a secret style in mind. Natural yet Sexy curls like the one below!

I arrived at Air Salon in the morning and was first greeted with a warm honey lemon drink and a neck massage! The neck massage was rejuvenating and deeply relaxing!

Aveda Blue Oil

As an Aveda salon, Air Salon used Aveda blue oil, which are all made with plant-derived ingredients. It gave a cooling sensation and made me more relaxed.

During the hair consultation, I told Heidi about my desired look and showed her pictures of what I wanted! It was only then that I realised that the styles that I chose were mostly done with styling (hair tongs)… as I’m extremely lazy, I wouldn’t have the patience to tong my hair with the curler every morning!

Heidi therefore suggested the cosmo ceramic perm. Now, I was a little worried as I actually had a hair perm earlier this year elsewhere but sadly, the perm only lasted for a week. To think I wasted so many hours in that salon for something that didn’t last!!

Even though I had many concerns about whether the curls will last, whether the perm will look natural, Heidi was very patient. She took the time to answer all my concerns and was very detailed in examining the condition of my hair! As I had previously permed my hair earlier this year, Heidi felt that the cosmo ceramic perm, which incorporates treatment with the perm to achieve the desired curls without making it too dry, was ideal for me!

After hearing her explanation, I was much more reassured to just leave my hair to her. After all, she was educated in Vidal Sassoon!

We started with a very enjoyable hair wash! When asked about her least favourite part about being a hairstylist, Heidi chuckled. (Her least favourite is hair washing :p).

Heidi went on to layer and trim my hair. She explained that the preceding hair trim is important and would make a difference to how the curls are rolled later on.

She then proceeded to soften my hair with a softening cream; to break the hair bonds in preparation for the perm.

While waiting for the perm lotion to penetrate the hair, I was served Aveda tea to hydrate myself!

Note that the perm lotion is not applied all the way to the roots… just slightly below so that the curls can begin there!

Some waiting and a hair wash later, the perm is finally in progress.

Both medium and large ceramic rollers were used to create the curls I’ve always wanted!

The skills of the hairstylist actually plays a vital part in the perm process because the perm results are dependent on how the stylist use the rollers to design the resulting curls.

Eeks, don’t I look like a monster from Alien’s Vs Predators?

Ceramic perm at Air Salon SG was surprisingly enjoyable unlike my 2 previous experiences with digital perm.

During my previous experiences, I could feel the heat radiating from the machines very near to my scalp and therefore felt uncomfortable.

This perm was however different. I didn’t even realize when the perm was completed because I did not feel any heat at all!

Heidi explained that this is due to the special machine that Air Salon specially imported for perms!

By “hanging up” the hair, the resulting perm last longer and is more voluminous!

At the same time, it doesn’t require as high a temperature to perm the hair so damage to the hair is minimized.

After another hair wash, neutraliser was applied onto my hair. This helps to fix the bonds so that the curls stay in shape!

One last hair wash later, we ended off with a hot towel for my neck and a short massage!

A little more blowdrying…

and we are done!

Thank you Heidi and the Air Salon staff for all your hard work!!!

Alison and Heidi at Air Salon

Overall, I was very satisfied with my perm done at Air Salon.

Service was good! Heidi and her assistant Vivian made sure to check that I was comfortable, keen to provide me with cushions and magazines and always checking whether I need something to drink.

As for the perm, I am very happy with it because it looked so natural!

Here is me and my curls just 4 days after my perm!

Thanks to Air Salon & Heidi, I sported a new look at work for Singtel event at Sitex. Many people complimented my hair and asked where my hair was permed!

This perm was also very easy to maintain. I don’t even have to comb my hair after the shower… All I have to do is to twirl my curls inwards towards my face.

Thank you once again Air Salon for giving me such a wonderful Christmas present!
