June 2016
I’m Agent J, a PR executive by day! I blog about on a range of topics including beauty and lifestyle in my blog: http://ohhhoney.wordpress.com.
If you can make the eyes talk, you’re halfway there.
- Ian Holm
Eyes are the first thing I notice about other people – whether or not they are sincere, friendly and pretty, I think that eyes can speak a lot about a person! That is why I take the time to make sure that I do my eye makeup properly when I go to work or go for any special events.
Eye makeup can however take a SUPER long time for a person with a double eyelid on one eye and single eyelid on another. I went for a double eyelid surgery some time ago and it really helped in making my eyes look balanced and cutting down makeup times!
Another thing that has helped me with my makeup routine is LASH EXTENSIONS!
As I don’t have many long natural eyelashes in the first place, it can take really long to put on falsies, mascara and eyeliner. I decided that I need to do something to cut down on the time I spent getting ready in the mornings, and lash extensions were the answer!
I have since tried more than 5 eyelash extension salons. While most of my experiences are good, there are also experiences that are so bad I still have nightmares sometimes!
When Agent G told me about a new eyelash salon in Tanjong Pagar, the lash connoisseur in me got really excited… how would this new salon fare?
Happy to embark on my first mission, I made an appointment immediately!
First impressions
*Slides open the glass door*
Pleasant lady at the front desk greets ‘Hello! Welcome to Devonshire”!
The receptionist is a local lady who can help translate a little bit of Japanese if you require!
While waiting for my lash therapist, I observed the place a little.
- Clean.
- Designer-ish furniture.
- Beds are not cramped together.
- Smells really nice
- Relaxing ambience
- Lots of magazines
As Maris Hair & Treatment is on the other side, I could also smell a whiff of their organic treatments from here!
The receptionist asked if I wanted tea.
So far so good!
When my assigned therapist Yumiko was available, she came over to do a consultation with me. When I shared with her about my concerns that my lashes are sparse and short, Yumiko recommended to do C Curl Volume lashes that are 10-12mm long. Volume lashes are quite unique as they have 2-3 lashes per lash strand, rather than the usual 1 per lash strand, giving an overall more volumised look.
Unlike Volume Lashes from other salons, EyeDesign produces their own volume lash in Japan and it’s called AIRY Lash! The reason why it is called Airy lash is because they are specially made to be light. It can get pretty heavy when many lashes are put into a single lash strand. They have however perfected the technology such that their 4D Airy lash strand weigh as much as a single lash strand!
Initially, I was worried that the Volume Lash will be too thick and obvious for me. So after hearing her explanation about the Airy Lash, I am more assured that they will be natural looking.
I decided to trust the pretty Yumiko and go for it!
Step 1: Cleansing the lashes
I was shown to the bed and got settled in quickly.
Cleansing was done rather fast in less than 5 minutes.
But perhaps that’s cause I didn’t have any extensions on this month. As usual, you shouldn’t have any eye makeup on as well because this will facilitate the cleansing process.
Yumiko’s very light-handed (as I have noted with many Japanese therapists) and I was sure I was in good hands.
Step 2: Lash check
Yumiko san asked if I would like to do a lash check. I was a little confused at first cause I haven’t been asked this at any other salons.
She explained that basically she could extend 10 pieces on one eye to let me check if the length is okay, before we proceed.
That obviously sounds great, and I think it will be best if you’re new to lash extensions where you have no idea what to expect!
Step 3: The top extension
Yumiko continued the lash extension once I gave the final okay.
The process was comfortable, and I think I fell asleep at some point in time (it’s a good thing!). At one point, the glue seeped into my eyes because I accidentally opened it during the procedure. Yumiko san used a fan to alleviate the discomfort.
Other than that, the process was smooth, and pain free.
I talked to Yumiko a little during the extension and though she’s Japanese, she can communicate slightly in English.
Language is not really an issue.
The upper lashes looked good!
Step 4: Lower lash extensions
Yet another new thing I tried out for the first time – lower lashes!
Yumiko san suggested that I try some lower lash extensions to open up the eye, and to even out the top lash effect to make my overall extensions look more natural.
A little drying later…
And we’re done!
Here’s a look at the lash extension from other angles!
Overall impressions
I really enjoyed my experience at EyeDesign by Devonshire.
I have tried many different lash extensions but this is my first time trying out AIRY Volume Lashes! I must say I’m really impressed as it feels really light and airy yet giving illusion of fuller lashes. The bottom lashes also really helps open up the eye area, giving a really ‘kawaii’ look!
It’s been a few weeks since the extension and they have held up really well for me.
This is how it looks like at home!
After washing my face everyday, I will use an eyelash comb to curl the lashes upwards. The shape is well-maintained and I’m really pleased with the results. I like how soft the lashes are, and my friends were asking me where I did the extension when we met up cause it looks like real eyelashes.
This isn’t the cheapest lash extension out there (its reasonably priced at about $120!) but the skill level of its therapists are clearly better than some other salons out there.
Located really conveniently near Tanjong Pagar MRT (5 minutes walk), I would definitely visit again in a heartbeat!
