It’s time to go crazy for the School Holidays!

If you haven’t bleached your hair before, this asymmetrical peek a boo vibrant colour may be a good place to start!

Read about Agent L’s hair colour experience at Plan B Hair Studio below!

Hello, I’m Agent L and I currently blog at thelynnlivia.com.

LYNN1

I am currently in my second year in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).

As you can see, my hair is a boring brown! I have never bleached my hair previously because none of my schools allowed me to do so.

Given that NAFA is quite open, I was hoping to go a little more daring with my hair before I have to tone it all down at work later on!

As if Agent G heard my inner desires, she asked if I would like to go for a fresh new coat of colour at Plan B Hair Studio.

I was only too happy to say Yes!

First Impressions

The salon looks like this.

Plan B by Vast

Plan B by Vast Hair

Don’t you think it looks very hip and cool?

Definitely stands out from the rest of the hair salons I’ve seen at Far East Plaza.

Consultation

The stylists who attended to me were Zen (Stylist) and Ricky (Director and Founder).

Initially, I was actually interested in something like this:

Ombre

An ombre pink and purple.

When I told the stylists about my desired hair colour design, Zen and Ricky shared that the above design requires me to bleach the whole head, possibly more than once. While it can be done, it may cause my hair to be very dry and frizzy afterwards because it will be permanently damaged. They then asked me for the colours I wanted on my hair (violet and rose) and gave me suggestions on several styles to choose from.

Ultimately we decided on an asymmetrical peek-a-boo hair colour design – you will know why it is named like this in a bit!

I like it that the stylists here at Plan B took the extra effort to explain to me about hair damage. Usually salons will just proceed with what you say you want and end up damaging your hair permanently without telling you beforehand. It is a plus point to me when he explained about the hair damage especially since it is my first time bleaching!

Step 1: Bleaching

The first thing that Zen did was pin up my hair that is not going to be bleached before proceeding to bleach the inner part of my hair.

I hear from Ricky that the bleach they use is special. Unlike those powder-based bleach which tends to wreak more damage to the hair, they use an oil based bleach that moisturizes the hair to prevent it from being too damaged! They also added Olaplex, which is a bond rebuilder to prevent the hair from becoming too damaged afterwards! I read about Olaplex on Beauty Undercover as well and am glad that Plan B uses it as well.

This is the first time I hear about different types of bleach as I thought they were all the same… Now I know that there are higher quality bleach and cheaper bleaches as well!

This is how I look like once all the bleach is applied. This is the first time I see a stylist using aluminium foil to apply bleach! Zen and Ricky calls it the back-to-back foil method. Although it takes quite a bit of time and effort, this method allows the bleaching to be more even and less bleach to be used. So once again, hair is less damaged.

With this method, I only need to bleach ONCE to achieve pink and purple even though my hair has never been bleached! (Other salons may require me to bleach my hair 2-3 times!)

I did have to wait about half an hour afterwards for the bleach to remove the colour pigments completely. This is because my previous hair colour was a stubborn purple which requires more time to remove!

On a side note, don’t I look like Chun Li from Street Fighters? :D

Soon, it was time to go for a hair wash to remove the bleach!

Step 2: Application of Colour

And so Zen proceeded to apply the colour on my hair.

LYNN15 1

He applied them carefully to make sure each strand of my hair is coated with the hair dye. It’s like a layer of rose and a layer of violet overlapping each other, but I can see more purple from front view.

LYNN18 1

After applying the violet and rose colour, he proceed on to retouch the rest of my hair.

LYNN19 1

As I colour my hair at home sometimes, the other parts of the hair was unevenly coloured.

Therefore, he retouched the other parts of my hair with a darker tone of brown that had a hint of violet to match my asymmetrical peek a boo hair colour design!

One more hair wash…

Can you see the purple on my hair already?

Step 3: Blowdrying

LYNN21

The colour started to show once the hair is dried…

So in LOVE with this purple!

LYNN22

I also love how the colours look different depending on whether you look at my hair from the front or from the back!

Step 4: Haircut

Although I just had a haircut, the perfectionist Zen wanted to do a little trim to round off my hair.

Step 5: Styling

LYNN27

After the haircut, Ricky and Zen proceeded to style my hair with a GHD Straightener.

Apparently GHD is good because it keeps the same temperature throughout the straightener!

Anyhow, I found it really interesting how Ricky could use the straightener to create curls for me!

This is how my hair looks like curled!

LYNN29

If I tie it up, it will look like this!

Isn’t the transformation amazing?

After

I JUST realized (from the photos)  that my hair was really very uneven and dry before going for the colour at Plan B.

The darker brown actually made my hair look bouncier and healthier while contrasting with the pink and purple.

I’m really happy with it!

Forgive me for taking more selfies!

Conclusion

I LOVE MY HAIR COLOUR!

This asymmetrical peek-a-boo colour design really pretty and it is not too attention seeking either – you can go to work or school without attracting too much attention from the bosses or teachers.

Even though it has been a week, the colour stays on really nicely as well!

Overall, the experience at Plan B Hair Studio was above my expectation! I feel that the stylists here really put in lot of effort into listening to what I want and gave lots of suggestions.

I could tell that they are not the type of stylists who would damage your hair so that they can earn money from you. Instead, they love to share about how I can better protect my hair and even taught me several ways to make my hair colour stay longer – Basically all the ‘Do’s and Don’ts.’ I personally like it when the hairstylist go into details and share knowledge with customers because it shows that the stylist is putting in effort to make you look good, and not just do what you want them to do.

Another thing that I always look for in the salon is that after everything, they take the effort to style your hair and make you walk out of the salon feeling confident. I am happy to say that yes, Plan B Hair Studio not only made me feel confident, my hair feels healthier too!

Any other things to note?

Well, there are only 2-3 stylists here so you may have to wait sometimes if they are very busy! They don’t take on many appointments at one time but sometimes they may be slightly late if a customer comes late. They are also really busy so I actually see a lot of customers being rejected politely as they simply don’t have the stylists to attend to you.

While I was there, I also saw Ricky and Zen creating beautiful bob haircuts for ladies, which I think is another one of their specialties.

They are not the cheapest salon out there but the stylists here are skillful and goes the extra mile to take care of your hair! A great salon I would highly recommend for colour and bob haircuts!
