7 Things You Should NOT Expect During Eyelash Extensions

Lusting over long lashes but don’t have the time or patience to apply fake lashes everyday?

If you are thinking of getting eyelash extensions, it’s important to find a good eyelash therapist because if eyelash extensions are applied or removed incorrectly, the lash follicles can be permanently damaged.

We speak to Kazumi aka Jeane, lash expert and co-founder of KJStudio by COVO to give us the lowdown on what should not happen when getting your lash extensions.

Kazumi Jeane

1. You should NOT lose too many natural eyelashes

The artificial weight of lash extensions will definitely exert some strain on your eyelashes. While some of your natural lashes might fall out, make sure you are not losing too many!

To minimize loss of natural lashes, eyelash therapists at KJ Studio avoid attaching extensions on baby eyelashes (baby fine eyelashes) and only attach on grown eyelashes, as grown eyelashes are able to withstand the weight of eyelashes. They also use lightweight and high quality lashes so that any strain on existing eyelashes are minimized!

2. The eyelash extensions should NOT be applied in clusters or strips

Kazumi explains that cluster lashes are lashes that are glued to a bunch of natural lashes. As they are not applied one by one onto natural lashes, it takes A LOT of glue to stick them on.

This is bad because lashes (like your hair) grow at different speeds. As they grow, the lashes growing faster will pull on the lashes which are growing slower. This causes you to feel an itchy, burning sensation, follicle damage and even eye infections, styes and twisted flipped lash extensions!

The excessive glue and the heavier cluster lashes will also weigh down on your natural lashes, making it drop more easily.

That is what happened to Agent G when she tried eyelash extensions for the first time at a local salon.

Chunks of eyelash extension fell off at one go after application, making it look very unnatural.

It was also heavier and she lost quite a bit of natural eyelashes with the extension :(

This is the reason why lash therapists in KJStudio are taught to apply lash extensions one by one!

Other than minimizing damage to the lashes, it also results in a more natural look.

As you can see, even the Before photo looks natural because the lash extension were applied one by one!

3.    Eyelash extensions should NOT be applied directly to your Eyelid

Eyelash extensions should be applied about 3 quarters down the lash so that it can easily fall out during the lashes’ natural growth cycle.

If applied directly on the eyelid, the glue will clog up the lash follicles, causing eye infections and puffy eyes.

Kazumi shared that this is one of the leading examples of bad lash extensions that she has seen in Singapore. Some customers go to her because of bad lash extensions done else where and Kazumi actually has to spend more than 2 hours to remove these lash extensions by waiting for the glue to dissolve and removing them one by one!

 4.    Your eyelashes should NOT feel like they are being pulled

During the procedure, your eyelashes should not feel like they are being tugged harshly and the entire procedure should be a painless one.

If at any moment you feel your eyelashes are being pulled, it most likely means that each eyelash is not attached separately as it should be and instead, is being glued together with the other lashes.

5.    Eyelash extensions should NOT be One Size Fits All

Everyone has a unique set of eyelashes. A lady with naturally thin eyelashes may not be able to support a thick extension on her natural lash as this may result in breakage of natural lashes. Depending on your preference, different lengths and thickness of eyelash extensions may also be required to achieve a natural lash shape.

That is why it is important for your eyelash extension salon to have a wide variety of lash extensions that best fit your needs and natural lashes to keep it healthy!

KJStudio offers 4 curl types (J, B, C, CC Curls) at various thickness (0.06mm,0.1mm,0.15mm,0.2mm) and lengths to cater to customers with different type of lash needs.

 7.    The glue should not be accidentally applied to your lower eyelashes

If your eyelash therapist uses pads and takes precautions, accidents such as your lower lashes being glued shut with your upper lashes should not happen.

7.    Your eyelash extensions may NOT look the same each time

The finish look may differ each time you get eyelash extensions. This is because the number of attachable lashes, thickness and length of eyelashes that can be applied are dependent on the condition of your eyelashes.

If your lash therapist does not apply lash extensions the right way, you may find that your eyelashes may become less and less thick!

On the other hand, if your lash extensions are correctly applied and maintained, your natural eyelashes can actually grow more over time.

KJStudio’s loyal customer, Sherlyn, found that her natural eyelashes grew a lot more after going for KJStudio’s eyelash extensions regularly! As the therapists at KJStudio teach her how to take better care of her eyelashes and guided her on how to use the eyelash growth essence, her natural eyelashes actually grew significantly. In fact, her lash therapist find that she can attach almost double the eyelash extensions now than when compared to her first visit!
